GCR Founder Named San Diego La Raza Lawyer of the Year

October 22, 2009 - Yuri Calderón, co-founder and managing partner of corporate San Diego law firm GCR LLP, was recently named San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association Lawyer of the Year for his service to the local Latino community and GCR’s commitment to diversity.

Calderón exemplifies the diversity and passion at GCR. As managing partner, Calderón seeks a unique make-up of attorneys with extensive legal experience, enabling the firm to provide clients with expert legal guidance quickly, economically and efficiently. He also ensures that all GCR attorneys are dedicated to making meaningful differences in their communities, with many serving as activists for various ethnic, legal and community groups.

One of the many ways that Calderón serves the Latino community is as the longest-serving member of the executive board of the National Hispanic Bar Association. He has also worked as general counsel to different Latino organizations including The San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, California Latino School Board Association and he is currently the general counsel to the Latino Caucus of the League of California Cities. One of Calderón’s biggest accomplishments is growing GCR from three to 32 attorneys in only three years and seeking even larger growth in coming years.

San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association has grown to represent more than three hundred Latino and Latina lawyers practicing in San Diego County with the purpose of advancing the cause of equality, empowerment and justice for Latino attorneys, and the Latino community through service and advocacy. The association sought nominees who dedicate their time to a cause or issue, provide outstanding service to the San Diego Latino community, and are committed to increasing diversity within the legal profession.
